Packaging Development
First Drafts
The goal of this project was to create crave-able packaging with a window that would attract the attention of kids on the shelf while highlighting the differences between it and other children’s tablets. In this case, the advanced parental controls are a custom app suite with no ads, YouTube, or other potentially harmful content.
The initial solution included the Goally penguin mascot on the package to help attract kids’ attention, including a custom illustration of the penguin with a more emotive action. Additionally, I pitched the phrase “Learn, Play, Create” to highlight the key features and benefits of the product. Finally, a section with parental information highlighted the advantages offered in the form of parental controls.
Intermediary Drafts
After some discussions on initial looks, the client wanted to deliver a more premium package while still attracting kids. With this feedback, I moved to a softer color palate and a more tech section approach instead of a toy section approach. We simplified many messages and focused on developing a stronger hierarchy across the packaging.
Final Packaging
Throughout the rest of the editing and refining process, I further simplified and segmented the key messaging on the front panel. The back panel saw significant changes, with more real estate given to the advanced parental controls currently unmatched in the space. During additional feedback rounds, the client and I moved from the larger front window, which initially displayed a screen demo, to a smaller corner window. This decision gave a cleaner front and a more premium final look.
